Intellectual Freedom

I

ntellectual Freedom is an important issue for school librarians at every level. As professional educators, we want our students to have access to information representing all points of view on current and historical topics.  Sometimes materials in our collections are challenged by patrons or other stakeholders. ALA Office of Intellectual Freedom provides information and assistance to meet those challenges.

Have you had a book or other library material challenged at your Virginia school library?  Did you know that it’s a form of challenge for a book to repeatedly show up missing after you have repeatedly replaced it on your shelf?  Has this challenge occurred in your current school year or within the past 5 years?  Please let the VAASL Intellectual Freedom Chair know about it. We may be able to give you some help and support!
