VA READS Book Awards #VAREADS
The book award has a mission is to provide educators and parents with an annual list of quality, diverse children's literature to be used in classrooms, homes, and libraries to provide students with the opportunity to experience windows, mirrors, and sliding glass doors in children's literature.
There are three categories: VA READS picture books, VA READS middle-grade books, and VA READS Young Adult books. Review the criteria and submission process guidelines below.
Love the idea of putting more diverse books and stories into the hands of children? Come join one of our committees!
All four applications can be accessed through the button below: Picture Book Committee, Chapter Book Committee, Middle School Committee and YA Book Committee. Employed school librarians are invited to join the VA READS committee!
Award Descriptions and Submission Guidelines
VA READS announces winners from Picture Books, ES Chapter Books, Middle School, and Young Adult Committees each year. Authors are invited to give an acceptance speech at the annual VAASL conference. Students, teachers, and librarians are eligible to vote if they have read at least half of the books on the list. Votes will be collected via Google Form online each spring.
Any student reader, teacher, or librarian in Virginia is encouraged to nominate books for inclusion in the future.
